Nursing Homes to Be Targeted by US DOJ Task Forces

The US DOJ announced this week that it is establishing ten regional “Elder Justice Task Forces,” which will consist of local and federal law enforcement agents and prosecutors brought together to investigate and prosecute nursing homes that operate on the wrong side of the law.  The goal is to protect residents from substandard care and root out Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse.

For those in the healthcare industry, this yet one more example of law enforcement ramping up its enforcement efforts in this area.

Regions being targeted are: Northern District of California, Northern District of Georgia, District of Kansas, Western District of Kentucky, Northern District of Iowa, District of Maryland, Southern District of Ohio, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Middle District of Tennessee and the Western District of Washington.
